Elephants (and memories)
I’m hoping that 2026 doesn’t have a lot of Dayton-possession related drama. Not that I expect the Christine or Melissa factions to really want a lot of what is down there. For that matter I don’t expect us to want much of it. The bar is something we’d like to transport north; the secretary in the front room is another but Gaye I think wants to keep that for a while. If Christopher is moving out this year he seems likely to get some of the other furniture (if he wants it) but any of that requires a UHaul and a 2 day drive so…..who knows?
Didn’t realize how many baseball (Star Wars / Star Trek) cards Frank collected….the count must be in the thousands. I’m not sure I have any desire to keep any of them. All of the Hallmark ornaments (ok, maybe 95% of them) are now here in Okemos…..a quick eBay search showed that contrary to what I have may have thought in the past there really isn’t a lot of value to them. So, I very carefully unboxed many of them and hung them up on one of the smaller trees.
So, aside from that, and the ties (which at one point Gaye thought were gone but were suddenly found) I can’t think of anything else that might have interest for me. Frank’s clothes are all too small for any male in the family (there are some nice jackets down there….but, alas).
Today brought the tour of 2 senior facilities - the one near Frandor ($7K/month) was nicer than many hotels I’ve stayed in and well, I don’t think that’s gong to be the choice. The other, at the very west end of Mt. Hope road, is much more of an apartment complex with some senior activities and meals provided ($2.5K total?). I’m fairly sure we’ll end up at something like the latter. But I admit to being really surprised that Gaye is insisting on a 2 bedroom apartment. My estimate of what is/was coming up from Florida must be a lot smaller that what she is thinking. Was shocked (shocked!) to hear that she is planning on having professional movers move her stuff - this choice is a leftover from the military days (where yes, professional movers moved you everywhere) but I am absolutely sure she has no concept of the current cost of that adventure. And then that discussion turned into about having to pack up 150 shot glasses (someone might want them) or 400 DVDs (ditto.) and how much she has been thinking (and dreaming!) about it.
Tried to make the point that she only needs to do one thing - identify what she wants to take north - and one way or another we will handle dealing with the rest. We will see if I can get that message to stick.
